let’s get down to the reel deal

I know…you are supremely annoyed about Reels.

It’s just another thing to learn and manage on top of all the other things you already have to learn and manage.

I teach business owners how to feel empowered and excited to show up on social media and the digital marketplace.

My last stint before starting my own business as storytelling brand photographer/videographer was as a social media videojournalist in the New York City tri-state area.

My first week on the job, I was tasked with going Live on Facebook…where we had a roster of 1.2 million followers.

The lump in my throat was the size of a golf ball.

I bashed myself for never attending Toastmasters or practicing my public speaking to get rid of those “um”s and “uh”s that littered my sentences.

I was relieved that I had put on makeup that day but my hair looked hor-ri-ble.

And let’s not even mention the weight I had gained in the last year and a half, thanks to an injury that kept me out of the gym.

I can hardly remember what I reported on that day.

But the thing is, I’m still here, standing. I lived the Live to tell you about it.

And I lived through many more during my time there. In addition to creating daily video content for social media where the ultimate goal was to get views, comments and clicks over to our stories.

And if your newsroom doesn’t get that traffic to its site, you’re in big trouble with the advertisers that pay your bills.

All of this to say,

Showing up in front of large audiences can be scary, but it doesn’t have to stay that way.
