SF Bay Area Brand Videos for Midwife Melissa Dean

 

Over here at Solhaus Media, our founder Bernadette is happily child-free. (Yes, she also has two cats, why do you ask?)

But if she were to ever change her mind, Melissa Dean of Casa Natal Birth & Wellness Center is who she’d have in her corner. 

Melissa is not only the founder of Casa Natal, which provides personalized, compassionate, 1:1 care for mamas-to-be, she’s also a functional midwife, providing a holistic approach to pregnancy and birth.

Melissa wanted to start creating a library of educational videos for both her personal brand and for Casa Natal. 

STRATEGIC PLANNING FOR SF BAY AREA BRAND PHOTOSHOOT

After figuring out that we would be shooting content for eight fully produced brand videos, we got straight to work on scripting. The script is always where the story begins, as it will give us direction on what B-Roll shots to get to help illustrate what’s being spoken about. 

The topics for Melissa’s videos were as follows:

  • Intro to Melissa Dean

  • Intro to Casa Natal Birth and Wellness Center as a brand

  • Tour of Casa Natal Birth and Wellness Center 

  • What is the difference between an OB-GYN and a midwife?

  • The differences between a hospital birth and midwife birth

  • What is postpartum depletion

  • Choosing the right health insurance for your family

  • What is a functional midwife?

Each topic needed its own script, and then its own storyboard and shot list. While there would be a lot of overlap, we still needed to make sure all our bases were covered.

EXECUTING A BRAND VIDEO SHOOT

After all the scripts were written and edited, and we had a proper shot list, we set a date for our shoot when all of Melissa’s staff would be in the office. 

We had a lot of ground to cover, so it was imperative that we had a schedule and that we stuck to it as best as possible. 

For the A-Roll/scripted parts of the video, we set up in one of the birthing rooms that had the best lighting and looked coziest – we wanted to make sure that the vibe of Melissa’s videos reflected how she wants her clients to feel. 

Because the scripts were already ready to go, it was easy for Melissa to run through them quickly using our teleprompter, which meant it only took a couple of hours to get all the takes we needed for her A-Roll.

THE MOST EFFECTIVE BRAND VIDEOS NEED COLLABORATION

After we were done with Melissa’s A-Roll, we moved on to the B-Roll. B-Roll are the additional, illustrative videos we capture that help tell a story – otherwise all the videos would be of a person just talking to the camera. 

While many of the B-Roll shots were of the rooms and details of Casa Natal, we did also want to showcase what it’s like to be a patient of Melissa and her team. Melissa asked a few of her clients ahead of time if they’d be willing to be on camera for some shots, and we were able to get a variety of clientele at different stages of their birth journeys! 

One included an expectant mama who was coming in for a check-up, and the other was a family who had just given birth to their first child a week prior. What a special treat it was to have a little one be part of our shoot!

UTILIZE YOUR BRAND PHOTOS & VIDEOS

While we got everything we possibly could during Melissa’s full-day media session, there were going to be shots that weren’t going to be able to capture during her shoot, such as an in-home visit with a client.

But fear not! Melissa had done a mini brand video shoot with us a few months prior, where we were able to get footage of her with clients and their babies at their homes, which was perfect for completing some of her videos.

Of course, there would be some shots that would be impossible for us to get, such as hospital footage, so we relied on stock video from Envato Elements for that.

At the end of the day, Melissa received a robust media library that included the eight fully-produced brand videos, as well as over 100 B-Roll clips that were formatted in horizontal and vertical orientations, so that she and her marketing team had assets for both social media and her website.
